A. Context
Several weeks ago, there was a student of 10th grade who asked a help for his homework. His homework is writing a description text, but he feels difficult to write it. At that time, his homework is describing his school by writing. He said that he did not know what should he write first and he felt difficult in constructing the words into sentence with appropriate structure. He also said that he felt those difficulties in writing a text since he was around 8th grade. So, this program is opened with focus on developing the writing skill.
B. Needs Analysis
Based on the context, the student needs to be able to write a descriptive text with focus on its unity and coherence (focus on the topic and well-organized) and he also needs to be able to write the text with the appropriate structure (simple present tense).
C. Goals and Objectives
1. Goals
The aim of this program is to develop the student’ writing skill, especially in writing a descriptive text with focus on its unity and coherence (focus on the topic and well-organized) and to write the text with the appropriate structure (simple present tense).
2. Objectives
At the end of the learning process, the students are expected to be able to:
- Identify the part of speech
- Understand the simple present tense
- Write sentences using simple present tense
- Identify the descriptive text
- Write a good descriptive text
D. Course Planning
1. Course Rationale
This program is designed for a student of 10th grade who feels difficult in writing descriptive text with focus on its unity and coherence (focus on the topic and well-organized) and in writing the text with appropriate structure (simple present tense). In this program, the student is lead and is trained step by step in order to be able to write a good descriptive text. During the learning process, he is going to learn about part of speech, simple present tense, descriptive text and how to write a good descriptive text.
2. Course Content
The course is focused on how to write a descriptive text with focus on its unity and coherence (focus on the topic and well-organized) and to write the text with the appropriate structure (simple present tense).
3. Scope and Sequence
The content of the module is discussing about part of speech, simple present tense, descriptive text and the way on how to write a good descriptive text and some tasks for evaluating which are arranged from simple to complex.
4. Course Structure
- This program will be held for 10 weeks (every Sunday) and the meeting will be done once a week with two hours per meeting.
Instructional materials are designed using grammatical syllabus and modular format.
